Today troubled Cinncinati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was cut from the team after he was arrested for assulting an 18 year old.  The sad thing about this situation is he was due to come off his year long suspension from the NFL any day for similar incidents.

Now I am not here to judge Chris, I actually feel a lot of simplity for him.  Mostly because he is in a NFL treatment program that tries to help troubled athletes when they get into problems.  However, a lot of times these types of programs only provide treatment for the fruit or the actions.  They never get to the root of the problem. They usually just teach behavior modification.

In order to truly have change in behavior we have to get down to the root of the matter.  Romans 12:2 says, do not conform to the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  How do we renew our minds?  This can only happen by changing our belief systems.

What we believe affects how we think, which affects how we act.  Some where along the way, Chris Henry aquired the belief that rules don’t apply to him.  As long as he believes this, his actions will never change, no matter how much he learns to modify his behavior.

Many of us are more like Chris than we are willing to admit.  We claim to love God and yet we do ungodly things.  When we continue to fall to the same sins over and over again, its as if we feel that God’s rules don’t apply to us.  (Galatians 6:7)
